The Inaugural Minnesota Burger Week Is Next Week

TLDR

So a whole week of $10 burgers just landed in Minnesota. And the best part? You don't have to drive into the city to get in on it. A few of our own South Metro spots are in on it too. Want more local finds like this? We round them up in our blog.

Okay, So What Is Minnesota Burger Week?

Here's the short version. It's a week where a bunch of Minnesota restaurants each make one special burger and sell it for $10. The idea is simple — get people out of the house, into new places, and eating great food.

It's put on by Minnesota Monthly. This is the first year they've done it, so it's kind of a big deal for our food scene.

You don't have to sign up for anything or buy a pass. You just show up, order the $10 burger special, and enjoy. Easy.

There's also a free app that makes it fun. You download it, check in when you eat at a spot, and earn points. Check in at 4 or more restaurants during the week and you're entered into a drawing for the grand prize. Whoever racks up the most points all week gets crowned the "Biggest Burger Lover in Minnesota." Bragging rights included.

The South Metro Spots

Now the good part. We're listing our local spots first, because these are the ones you can hit on a normal weeknight without a big drive. Here's what's cooking close to home.

Northern Taphouse — Lakeville

Their burger is called The Big Dill Smash, and it's a pickle lover's dream. You get double smashed patties with American cheese, dill pickle cheese curds, fresh pickle de gallo, Holy Dill aioli, dill kettle chip crumble, and fried pickles. All on a toasted bun. Yeah. That's a lot of pickle, in the best way.

The Tavern Grill — Apple Valley

The Tavern Grill is keeping it classic with the Single Smash Burger. It's a smashed Certified Angus beef patty on an egg-washed brioche bun, with grilled caramelized onions, shredded lettuce, and house-made smash sauce. Simple, done right.

Good news if you're gluten-free — they've got an option for you. And they do takeout too. They're at 15435 Founders Ln in Apple Valley. Here's the Tavern Grill Apple Valley page.

Southern Social — Eagan

Southern Social is bringing the Pimento Double. That's double beef patties topped with house-made pimento cheese, candied bacon, and pickles. If you've never had a pimento cheese burger, this is your week to fix that.

Those three are the local lineup for now. Since this is the first-ever Burger Week, more restaurants may still join before it starts. We'll keep an eye out.

A Few House Rules

The folks behind Burger Week have some friendly ground rules. They're worth knowing:

• Places might run out. These spots are gonna be busy. If they sell out late in the day, be cool about it and come back earlier next time.

• There might be a wait. Lots of people, one great burger. Pack some patience.

• Tip well. $10 makes us all a little cheap. But your server is working hard. Tip at least 20%.

• Maybe grab a drink or a side. It's not required. But some fries or a cold one goes a long way toward saying thanks.

• Dine-in is the move. Some spots are dine-in only for the special, and takeout might cost extra. Double-check the app first.
