So yeah, this storm is serious. A major March blizzard is blanketing the South Metro right now, and some school districts are already making the call for Monday. Others are still waiting to see how things develop overnight.

Here's what we know as of Sunday, March 15 at 6:00 PM. Things could change — keep an eye on your district's website and social pages for updates.

What's Closed (or Changed) Monday

District 196 — Eagan, Apple Valley, and Rosemount

School is canceled Monday. That covers all District 196 buildings across Eagan, Apple Valley, and Rosemount.

Lakeville Area Schools (ISD 194)

Monday is a snow day for Lakeville Area Schools. No school. As for after-school activities — that decision will be announced by 1 PM on Monday, March 16. So stay tuned if your kid has practice or an activity after school.

Farmington Area Public Schools

Farmington isn't canceling outright — they're going to a flex learning day instead. That means students will be doing remote/independent work from home rather than coming into school.

ISD 191 (Burnsville, Eagan, Savage)

Is on spring break so no school.

Shakopee Public Schools

Monday is a snow day for Shakopee Public Schools.

Prior Lake/Savage Area Schools

School is completely canceled, no e-learning.

What Hasn't Changed (As of 6 PM Sunday)

A few districts haven't made a call yet as of this writing:

Hastings Public Schools — No cancellation announced for Hastings.

This doesn't mean those districts won't change their minds. Overnight snowfall totals and road conditions could push them to make a call early Monday morning.

About the Storm

This is shaping up to be the biggest snowstorm of the season. Parts of the South Metro have already seen over 10 inches, with more coming. The National Weather Service had a blizzard warning in effect, and Governor Walz activated the National Guard for emergency operations. The Minnesota State Patrol reported over 200 cars off the road and dozens of crashes across the state by early Sunday afternoon.

Road conditions are rough — even if your district ends up going ahead with school, drive carefully.

The Bottom Line

As of Sunday evening, three South Metro school districts have made their call: District 196 is canceled, Lakeville (ISD 194) is a snow day, and Farmington is going flex. Three others — Shakopee, Prior Lake/Savage, and ISD 191 — haven't announced anything yet.

This post will be updated if we hear more, but your best bet is to go straight to your district's website or social media for the final word.
